Holistic Verification of Handwritten Phrases
نویسندگان
چکیده
ÐIn this paper, we describe a system for rapid verification of unconstrained off-line handwritten phrases using perceptual holistic features of the handwritten phrase image. The system is used to verify handwritten street names automatically extracted from live U.S. mail against recognition results of analytical classifiers. Presented with a binary image of a street name and an ASCII street name, holistic features (reference lines, large gaps and local contour extrema) of the street name hypothesis are apredictedo from the expected features of the constituent characters using heuristic rules. A dynamic programming algorithm is used to match the predicted features with the extracted image features. Classes of holistic features are matched sequentially in increasing order of cost, allowing an ACCEPT/REJECT decision to be arrived at in a time-efficient manner. The system rejects errors with 98 percent accuracy at the 30 percent accept level, while consuming approximately 20/msec per image on the average on a 150 MHz SPARC 10. Index TermsÐWord verification, holistic approaches, word shape matching, handwritten word recognition, address interpretation.

Use of the Shearlet Transform and Transfer Learning in Offline Handwritten Signature Verification and Recognition
Despite the growing growth of technology, handwritten signature has been selected as the first option between biometrics by users. In this paper, a new methodology for offline handwritten signature verification and recognition based on the Shearlet transform and transfer learning is proposed. Since, a large percentage of handwritten signatures are composed of curves and the performance of a sig...
متن کاملHolistic Farsi handwritten word recognition using gradient features
In this paper we address the issue of recognizing Farsi handwritten words. Two types of gradient features are extracted from a sliding vertical stripe which sweeps across a word image. These are directional and intensity gradient features. The feature vector extracted from each stripe is then coded using the Self Organizing Map (SOM). In this method each word is modeled using the discrete Hidde...
متن کاملA Handwritten Chinese Address Recognition Method Using Recursive Holistic Word Matching and Edit Distance Based Verification Strategies
With extensive applications in many domains, e.g., in postal address recognition, bank cheque recognition etc, Handwritten Chinese Address Recognition (HCAR) has attracted much interest recently. However, due to the large number in Chinese characters categories, irregular distortion and touching in handwriting, and high variations in writing styles, this task presents a big challenge in the com...
متن کاملHolistic Approach for Classifying and Retrieving Personal Arabic Handwritten Documents
This paper presents a novel holistic technique for classifying and retrieving Arabic handwritten text documents. The retrieval of Arabic handwritten documents is performed in several steps. First, the Arabic handwritten document images are segmented into words, and then each word is segmented into its connected parts. Second, several features are extracted from these connected parts and then co...
متن کاملHandwritten Word Recognition Using MLP based Classifier: A Holistic Approach
Holistic Word Recognition is one of the new modalities for handwritten word identification. The holistic paradigm in handwritten word recognition treats the word as a single, indivisible entity and attempts to recognize words from their overall shape, as opposed to recognize the individual characters comprising the word. In the present work reports a longest-run based holistic feature, that has...
